New Feature on Our Web Store – Wish Lists and Gift Registries

We’ve upgraded our store software again, and this time have added a nifty new set of features, Wish Lists and Gift Registries.

You have to be signed in to use wish lists, and that means having an account on our store, but that’s pretty easy to set up and it also lets you do a bunch of other stuff, like keep track of your past orders, keep multiple shipping addresses and so forth.

Once you get an account set up, you can have the system remember you so everytime you visit the store you’ll be logged in automatically.  Any time you’re logged in to our store, you’ll see additional links on the product pages, namely on every product page you’ll see a link called “Add to List” under the add to cart buttons.  These links allow you to add items to your wish list(s) or gift registries.

How to set up a wish list or gift registry:

First, when you log in, your basic wish list is already set up for you, so you don’t have to set that up at all. If all you want is one wish list, then you’re done.  Just click on “add to list” links and you’ll get a little popup with “My Wish List” and you can pick that.  Easy!

If you want to set up additional lists or gift registries, you can go to the Account screen (Click on the “Register/Login” link) and down toward the bottom of that screen, type in a name for your list, and then click on the “Create New List” button.  You’ll see it added to your list of registries on the account management screen. If you want to share that list with other people, just copy and paste the link shown that’s associated with the registry, into an email and send it to them.

You can have as many lists as you like, and make them public or not according to your needs. When you add a list, it will then be available on the little popup list menus that come up when you click on the “add to list” links on the product pages.

Working with your list or lists:

Ok, so you have a bunch of stuff on your wish list and you want to buy some of it.  Here’s what you do.

Click on one of the View Cart or Checkout buttons that are scattered around the store.  If you don’t have anything in your cart, you’ll get a little screen that will tell you so.  Notice at the top of that notice there is a link that says “Logged in as yourname – View Your Lists – Logout”

Click on “View your Lists” and then select the list you want to work with from the popup. That will take you to the list screen where you’ll see all the things on your list listed.  Just click on the little Select box next to the product or products you want to buy, and then click on the “Move to Cart” link at the bottom.

If you want to move something from one list to another, just click on the select box for that item, then click on “add to list” at the bottom and select where you want to move it to from the little popup.

If you want to delete an item from your list, just do it the same way, select it and then click on the Delete button.

You can switch to the cart, to continue checkout, or switch to another list, or even create a new list by clicking on the “View Your Lists” link at the top.

We know it’s a little confusing! Right now the gift registry/wish list function is new, and we’ve already suggested to the software developers that they separate the cart function and the list functions a bit, so it doesn’t look like you’re in the cart when you’re in the lists, and vice-versa.  Hopefully those changes will be adopted and come soon.

Meanwhile, you can always tell where you are by scrolling to the bottom. If you see the normal cart checkout buttons and paypal stuff, you’re in the cart checkout. If you don’t, you’re in the wish list function.

The best way to get used to it is to go in there, tinker around with it, add and delete some wish lists, put stuff on and take it off, etc.

Remember, if you have questions about how to use it that aren’t answered here, just contact us on our chat support line, or email us.

Have fun!

How Much Backing do I need?

Filed under: Hints, Tips and How-to's — Cindy @ 10:33 pm

How much Backing do I need for a Twin, Double, Queen, and King quilt?

Twin is usually 63 x 87 so you will need 5 1/4 yds of 44-45″ fabric.  Piece the fabric in two strips with the seem running down the center lengthwise.  For 2 1/2 binding get 3/4 yd of fabric.

A double bed size quilt is usually 78 x 87 and assuming you use the 44-45″ fabric, it will take the same amount of yardage for backing and binding as the twin.   The backing is also pieced the same as the Twin.

A Queen size that is  84 x 92 will take 7 1/2″ yds of 44-45″ fabric for backing and 7/8 yd for binding.   Piece the back in three strips running across the width.

A King size measinging 100/92  needs about 8 yds of 44 – 45″  fabric and   1 yd for binding.   The backing is pieced in 3 strips.

Now, wouldn’t it be easier and less expensive to us 108″ wide backing fabric!

Specialty Cuts!

New Cozy Quilt Designs Patterns and News about our Patterns!

We just added a bunch of new patterns to the website from Cozy Quilt Designs (the Strip Club company).

There are a half dozen or more exciting patterns that have just become available, including Cactus Wreath, Transitions, the Diamond Medley table runner, and Butterfly blooms as well as several others.  Several of them will fit several size projects, using 2 1/2 inch strips and additional yardage.  You can check these out in our New Stuff area, or in our pattern area.

But, the big news is, We’ve come up with a new online concept, one that we haven’t seen anywhere else (we’re sure to be copied soon though).   We’re now putting the backs of all our patterns online! You can check out an image of the back of the pattern and get your fabric requirements, sizes, etc, then shop our store for your fabrics.  Just like walking through an ordinary fabric store, except there you can’t do it in your nightie!  :)

To look at the back of the pattern, just go to the product detail screen, click on (enlarge) under the pattern picture, then scroll to the second picture using the little >>   or  << under the picture.  It’s that easy!

Just another way we’re trying to make your life easier, and our website the easiest and friendliest out there!

Order Status and Order Tracking

Did you know that you can get order status and order tracking on any order with QKO?  You don’t even have to log in, or establish a user account with us to do it.  All you need is your order confirmation email.

To get your order status, just click on the Order Status link on the blue bar near the top of any screen on our web store, www.quilt-kits-online.com.   Enter the order ID number and your email address (the one you used when you ordered) in the appropriate places on the form and click the “View Order Status” button.  You’ll get complete information on your order, including what you ordered, what your final total with actual shipping is (provided it’s been shipped)  and any additional info we wrote. You can even click the “Printable version” button and print out the information.

In most cases, you’ll also see a tracking number.

To track your order through the USPS postal system, just copy the tracking number, then click on the link for “Tracking,” also on the blue bar.  Paste the tracking number into the appropriate spot and click on the “Track Package” button.  Our system will talk to the USPS system and find out what’s happened to your package so far.  Be aware though that the USPS only updates it’s information late at night and only when your package hits the next scan point, so the information isn’t always up to date.  USPS tracking works for most of the packages we send. In some cases though, like International First Class flats and some other packages, the USPS doesn’t supply tracking information.  But for almost all the packages we send, it does!  You can see exactly when we mailed your package at our Smith, Nevada post office, and where it went after that.

Pretty nifty, and just a couple more ways we try to make our website the best and easiest to use around.  If you want to get even more convenience, just register an account with our system by clicking on “Register/Login” and you can keep track of all your previous orders, use alternate addresses in case you want to send other people stuff, and do a lot of additional functions.

Try out these functions on our website, they’re fun!
