New Bed and Lap Kits

Filed under: General QKO Info — Don @ 2:41 pm

We’ve just come up with two new kits for lap or bed quilts and have finished adding them to the website.

Maid of Honor Quilts

First are our new Maid of Honor quilts.  These patriotic fabrics from Maywood Studios are in antique red, white and blue colors. They’re reminiscent of print designs from the USA’s Revolutionary and Civil Wars.

Cindy has designed a really pretty quilt using 12 inch finished squares, that shows off the unique designs in these fabrics.  This project comes in two sizes, a lap quilt or large wallhanging at 50 x 62 inches (all sizes approx finished sizes),   and a queen size bed quilt at 86 x 98 inches.   Click Here for the Maid of Honor Quilts on our website.

Next up are our Verona kits. These are Cindy’s adaptations of the original free pattern by Blank Quilting’s Heather Finnell, to simplify the fabric requirements and modify the quilt size.

The fabrics in these kits are Blank’s Verona in lovely teal, olive, cocoa and sand colors.  The

Verona Quilts

Verona Quilts

fabrics themselves are reminiscent of old Roman mosaic tile floors and have soft tones and very artistic designs.

We’re offering the Verona quilt kit in three different sizes, a 47 x 59 inch lap quilt, a twin quilt measuring 62 x 86 inches, and a queen bed quilt at 86 x 98 inches.  This quilt also uses 12″ finished size blocks.

Both of these kits are suitable for advanced beginners comfortable working with triangles.  Like all our kits, these come with all fabrics necessary for the top and bindings, our color fabric cross-reference, and the pattern. Optional backing fabrics are available for these kits and as with most of our kits you have the option to have us die-cut your 2.5 inch binding strips for free.  Click Here to see the Verona kits on our website.

These are two lovely kits.  One of the ladies in our neighborhood is considering sewing the Maid of Honor kit as a gift to our local Veterans Hospital.  We think that’s a great idea!

Mary Go ‘Round Dress Kit

Mary Go Round Dress Kit

OK, so Cindy and I were looking at patterns with our friend Lynn Kraus, no slouch in the pattern design business herself (Framed, Elles, Drunken Tote and many more) and she showed us this great little girl’s dress from Figgy, a friend of hers.  Well, the pattern was just tooooo cute, and both of us decided we had to do our first dress kit based on it.

This is a simple little girls wrap dress for ages 2-6 and is super-easy to sew. But it has a twist,  it’s reversible!  So, when  your little darlin’ (or little grand-darlin’) gets into the ice cream and you can’t go home to change before the next big event, hey, presto-chango, a clean dress!

We’re offering this ultra-cute dress in the Maywood “Dab of Jazz” fabrics it was designed for, except we’re offering it in two different colorways, the blue/green as shown, or alternatively, the violet/pink/orange colors.

Two fabrics is all it takes for this nifty, easy-to-sew dress, rated for beginning seamsters and up.  We also offer it in two size ranges, 2-3 years and 4-6 years, since the yardage requirements change as the little girls grow up.  Astute eyes reading the product detail for this kit will notice that our kit is priced at lower than our fabric prices.  Hey, we feel for young mothers and grannies on fixed incomes (we are one!) And, if you are sewing for twins (or triplets, or quadruplets)  you can delete the pattern and save 12 bucks!  Such a deal!  Hey, if you are sewing for twins, get one in each colorway and you can tell them apart!  :)

You have to admit, this dress is too cute to pass up!  Check it out by clicking here!

Whitetail Valley by EQ

Another great group of photo-realistic fabrics arrived last week from Exclusively Quilters.  This one is all about deer, magnificent bucks and the herds they chase.  We have about 7 of these fabrics on our website now, 2 panels, a fussy-cut scene set and four coordinating fabrics.  We’ve created a new special collection for these fabrics, bearing in mind the repeats.

Cindys Whitetail Valley Quilt

Cindy's Whitetail Valley Quilt

Our special collection contains one main panel set, two forest scene panels, 1 yard of the fussy cut scenes and a half-yard of each of the remaining four fabrics.

So, we wanted a kit for these fabrics, and Cindy came up with a really beautiful original wallhanging or lap quilt design and pattern.  We were looking at the fabric requirements for the kit and found out they matched what was in our special collection!  We decided then to just offer her pattern as a  freebie if you buy the collection!  So, if you want Cindy’s exclusive free pattern (you won’t find this anyplace else, guaranteed) just buy the special collection and click on the radio button therein, and we’ll send it along.

These are, as usual for Exclusively Quilters, really high quality fabrics with that nice finish that EQ is getting famous for, and the artwork is exquisite.

Remember, Father’s Day is coming!  And so is hunting season, sometime! So you hunting quilters need to get one of these and make it for yourself!   :)

Wow! Flutterbright and Pansybright!

Wow!  That’s all we could say when we opened up the boxes on these two new coordinated fabric lines from Fabric Freedom.

When we saw the samples and ordered these a few months ago, they were on paper, and they were spectacular then.  But the paper copies almost never do justice to the real fabrics, and this time is no exception.

Focus fabric - Red Flutterbright

Focus fabric - Red Flutterbright

These are really special.  They’re grouped into two lines, probably so as not to make the lines so large, but they’re really one big line that blends together.

Let’s start with Flutterbright.  There are two panel sets, one in cooler colors of blues/pinks/purples, and one in warmer reds/oranges/golds/mauves.  This theme runs through both fabric lines, so for convenience, we’ve divided the fabrics into groups of cooler and warmer colors.  There are several fabrics that are “cross-over” fabrics, but to a large extent you can mix and match these fabrics any way you want.

Getting back to the panels, each has four butterfly views and four pansy views. The total panel cut is about 24″ x WOF (44″).   Then there is a large, butterflies over pansies fabric, and a bunch of coordinates including the ever-popular polkadots in four color-on-color mixes.  There are three cross-over fabrics included in the Flutterbright groupings, a mixed medium butterflies, a mixed pansy grouping, and the unique new stripe in mixed colors. The stripe fabrics in these lines is really unique as it appears to be a close-up look at the patterns on a butterfly wing.

Pansybright has several of the same designs in different combinations of the color

Pansybright - Focus Red on Black ground

Pansybright - Focus Red on Black ground

palette, in large, medium and small prints leading off with a spectacular pansies grouping in multiple color groups and in both black and white backgrounds.  The medium and small fabrics also continue this and the tone-on-tone negative prints complete the group.

On our website, we’ve put all 31 fabrics of these groupings together, because they really are one large fabric line.   For our half-yard collections we’ve included cool and warm-color group special collections for Flutterbright which include a panel set and 1/2 yard of each of 6 coordinates.  In our Pansybright half-yard collections, there are three coordinates which are in both groupings, so if you buy both groupings you’ll get 1 yard of these three.  There are ten half-yards in each Pansybright collection.

These are fabulous, richly colored fabrics that work well across the entire line, and you can mix and match freely.  They all have Fabric Freedom’s high-quality goods, fantastic feel and sewability and that fine finish you’ve come to expect from FF.

We’ve got several kit ideas on the drawing boards for these, which should be available in the next few weeks.

Fabric Freedom Midnight

We’ve seen a lot of black and white fabrics, it seems like everyone has a line of them out there.  Most of them are pretty ho-hum and we haven’t seen many yet that we really liked.

Midnight by Fabric Freedom

Midnight by Fabric Freedom

Things have changed, though. When we first saw this line a few months ago it was on paper only, with very few “live” samples available, and it looked good then.  In real life it’s fantastic!

Brian and the ladies at Fabric Freedom have taken several of their most popular floral and other designs from various fabric lines and translated them into blacks, whites and shades of gray.  The nuance of shading in these fabrics in amazing and really brings out the quality of the hand-painted originals.  You’ll recognize the lily from Rainbow Lily, several florals from Rainbow Garden, designs from Park Lane, Samba, and more here.

If you like black and white fabrics, you owe it to yourself to take a close look at the large blowups of these on our website.

We’ve also included a mottled black Perfect Palette blender as it works perfectly with this.

We’ll have a kit out on this later today, and we also have our usual half-yard collection, containing all 13 fabrics at even more savings over our low yardage prices.

Sweet Daisy May Quilt and Pillowcase Kits

Yesterday, we placed a new quilt kit on our site, based on the Sweet Daisy May

Sweet Daisy May Quilt in Pink

Sweet Daisy May Quilt in Pink

fabrics from Fabric Freedom of London.  Our SDM quilt is loosely based on FF’s free pattern but modified extensively by Cindy here at QKO to improve it and make it easier to sew.  We think it’s prettier, too!

Several days ago we put up the Sweet Daisy May pillowcase kit, and this quilt matches that kit.  If you purchase the quilt kit you also have the opportunity to add the pillowcase kit at a discount.

The pictures on the website are of the pink version of this kit, but we also have a blue version of both the quilt and the pillowcase kits.

The quilt is 58″ x 70,” a perfect size for a twin bed.  The pillowcase is a standard

Sweet Daisy May Pillowcase in Pink

sized case.

These fabrics are very feminine and really really cute!  And, they’re super-high quality 100% cotton with that great finish that is standard for Fabric Freedom.

You must know a little girl (or a big girl) who would love to have this set in her room!

New Kits for Wolf Song and Midnight Cowboy

We added a couple of great new kits to our lineup today.  The first is a really

Framed Cowboys Quilt

Framed Cowboys Quilt

unique quilt that uses a pattern by our friend Lynn Kraus of Fiber Flies, called “Framed.”  Lynn has put this together with Maywood Studios new “Midnight Cowboy” fabrics, also featured in the printed pattern.

Midnight Cowboy is explained in an earlier post, but this quilt really shows off the cowboy life pictures and also makes good use of several contrasting coordinates from Maywood’s Midnight Cowboy and Cowboys & Indians fabric lines.  All in all this is a wonderful quilt and would be perfect for anyone who likes cowboy culture.

We’re offering the quilt kit, which we’re calling “Framed Cowboys” in the Twin size. At 64 x 76 inches it’s perfect for a bunk or single bed.  The pattern has directions for four different bed sized quilts,  so if you would like to make a bigger one, call or email us for a quote on one of the larger sizes.

Click Here for a link to the new “Framed Cowboy” kit.

Wolf Song Travel Quilt

Wolf Song Travel Quilt

The next new kit today is a small travel size lap quilt or small-room wall hanging done with the popular Wolf Song fabrics from Exclusively Quilters.  This 38″ x 39″ quilt is featured on EQ’s website and is really easy to make, essentially just a center panel and some borders.  So it’s suitable for any level of quilter.  This kit, or the finished quilt from it would also make an excellent gift.  Do you have any friends named Wolf?  :)

As usual, both kits come with all fabrics needed to make the top and bindings, the pattern and our color fabric cross-reference, and our exclusive offer to pre-cut your binding strips for you for free.

New Daiwabo Taupes!

We just got 9 new Serenity Daiwabo Taupes in the store today, and they’re up on the website now.  Many of these are the same prints as the ones we’ve had available but in additional color palettes.   This brings to 27 the number of different Daiwabo taupe prints we now have in stock.

One of our New Daiwabos

One of our New Daiwabos

There’s a reason these beautiful fabrics are selling to those in the know, and why we keep expanding our offering of these.  It’s because they’re just sooooo elegant, and because they’re soooo high quality!  These fine fabrics are addicting, once you get some, you’ll want more of them.  We plan to add another 30 or more to our lineup over this spring as soon as we can, with all new prints.  We’ve re-aligned our half-yard collections of these fabrics into two groups for now, with predominately cooler colors in one group and warmer colors in the other.  We’ll probably create more groups later when the collection gets larger.  If you want all 27 in our current collection, just buy both of the half-yard collections!

Again, all of these fabrics complement each other, that’s what makes these so fun and interesting.  If you haven’t taken a look at these lately, it’s time to take another look.  Make sure you look on our enlarged pictures of each fabric to get the true beauty of them.

We’ve also re-stocked on the Serenity Daiwabo IX fat quarter towers, and have also managed to find a small stash of the big Serenity VII towers that were hiding in the warehouse.   Those have been sold out for some time, and are one of the larger tower collections.  We’ll have all of them coming soon.

Also, check out Judy Martin’s new book, Stellar Quilts, now on our site.  She uses the Serenity Taupes in several of her new projects.

Anna’s Cat Quilt

Anna's Cat Quilt

Anna's Cat Quilt

Our friend Anna from snowy cold Chicagoland sent us pictures of her latest creation, this really cute “big cat” quilt.  Covering a queen bed top, the quilt features several diagonal strip panels, two main “cat” panels, and a large border of leopard spots.  The main panel fabrics are by Alexander Henry and feature jungle animals in black and white.

This is a really striking quilt, and a really nice design.   Nicely done, Anna!

Midnight Cowboy

We just got this great new line by Maywood Studios, designed by Perry Wahe.  Our selection has the main panel,  the blue/black border fabric, and six coordinating fabrics in several patterns.

Midnight Cowboy collection

Midnight Cowboy collection

The main panel consists of 4 rows of 5 vignettes each, total 20, depicting silhouetted scenes from cowboy life.  They are almost all different, and several of the scenes are mirrors of each other.  The scenes show the cowboy with his horses, dog, saddle, campfire, etc, under a night sky.  The color tones range from white and black through various shades of blue to navy.  The effect is very pleasing although it’s difficult to show in pictures.   Each of the scene squares is about 6 1/4 inches square.

The border fabric depicts the same scenes in 5 bands running parallel to the selvedge.  We’ve also added 6 coordinating fabrics, including small check/crosshatch fabrics in blue and red, a red bandana fabric, stars on a beige background that coordinates with the small amount of beige in the main fabrics, brown horseshoes on black ground (you have to have horseshoes,

don’t you?)  and a night sky fabric featuring sliver moons and small stars on a navy ground.

These fabrics are all done on the highest quality 100% Maywood quilters cotton, with the great feel and workability that they’re known for.

We have a kit coming soon using the “Framed” pattern written,  using these fabrics, by our friend Lynn Kraus of Fibreflies.   This will make a great quilt in pretty much any size, for anyone who loves cowboy culture.  As usual we have our half-yard special collection which includes 1 panel and 1/2 yard of each of the other fabrics, and also as usual if you add additional fabrics or select multiple collections you’ll get continuous cuts.
