Cindy’s New Jungle Buddies Quilt

Cindy’s been working on a new quilt for our little grandson who’s turning 1 year old this weekend. It’s her first quilt using her new Viking Megaquilter machine.

Cindy and our oldest son are driving up to Seattle for the birthday party, so she’s been rushing to get this done, staying up nights for the last few days. I get to stay home and take care of our two dogs, my son’s dog, and her horses, and of course, the store.

The quilt is 60″ x 72″ approximately, and uses Blank Quilting’s Jungle Buddies fabric by Heidi Pridemore. The orange, brown and blue accent fabrics are from Blank’s Simply Delicious line, and the pattern is a free pattern from Blank for this fabric line. I believe the pattern is also by Heidi Pridemore.

Cindy had to rush off to Carson City this afternoon to get some last minute things for her trip. She finished the FMQ’ing and got the bindings serged on this morning. She’ll hand-finish the bindings in the car while the son drives, tomorrow. I had to lay out the quilt and take some pictures with it unfinished, because they’re leaving in the dark tomorrow morning. Hopefully she can take a finished picture of it when she gets to Seattle.

Meanwhile, I think it’s really cute, even if it’s not totally finished yet!

This quilt is available in our webstore as a kit and all the fabrics are also available if you want to design your own.  Click Here to go to the product listing.

New from Maywood Studios!

Crazy Red Roses

Crazy Red Roses

We’ve just added two new fabric lines by Maywood.  You know and love Maywood quality like we do, and these new lines are the latest in a long line of beautiful, elegant designs on the finest quilter’s cotton.

First up, it’s Crazy Red Roses.  These rose designs and blenders on deep black ground make a stunning and bold statement.  You’ll love the look and feel of these rich fabrics with rich colors and great semi-abstract designs. 7 different fabrics range from large prints to irregular dots, with a couple of negative prints thrown in for good measure. Fabulous! Shop for Crazy Red Roses, Click Here!

Serafina by Maywood Studios

Next up, Serafina!  Reminiscent of a Gaughan painting, there’s something about tropical flowers done in muted mauve/reds and tans that’s ultimately just very pleasing, especially when they’re combined with watercolor-brush strokes in several of the coordinates.  This is a totally pleasing, satisfying line that will look great in any summer setting.  Large, medium and small prints,  darks and lights, and they’re all gorgeous!  Shop for Serafina by clicking here.

New from Elizabeth’s Studio!

Our very first offerings from Elizabeth’s Studio have arrived and are now available.  One is tooo elegant for words, the other is just plain fun!  We’ll talk elegance first, then have some fun, ok?

Kiev Collection

Kiev evokes the elegance of the Russian countryside, where cold dark winters are brightened by fantastic designs in decorative cloth.  Designed by Maureen Calvert, these eight designs feature brilliant colors on deep black grounds, with metallic gold highlights.  There’s even a fabric featuring those wonderful Russian nesting dolls!

These main fabrics and coordinates will add a huge touch of elegance to any setting.  Shop for Kiev, click Here!

The second offering from Elizabeth’s

Deco Dance – Fabrics and Kits

Deco Dance by Fabric Freedom is one of the most unique and interesting fabric collections we’ve seen in a long time!  And Sally’s new quilt design for these fabrics really accentuates those qualities by presenting them in a unique quilt design, which we’ve now kitted.

Deco Dance Large Print - Red/Orange

Deco Dance Large Print - Red/Orange

Deco Dance is a new line from our talented friends at FF. The fabrics are inspired and based on the works of Clarice Cliff, one of the most prolific and talented ceramic designers of the art deco period.

Inspired by well-known Cliff landscape designs, the line is presented in two colorways, a blue with yellow accents, and a red/orange grouping.  All of the fabrics have outline tracings of gold metallic around the designs, giving the fabrics that extra sheen and sparkle.  Each of the colorways consists of 6 new all-over designs complemented by a panel and a tonal stripe fabric.

The panel contains five different designs in 6-inch squares running in rows of 5 designs across the width of fabric. Ample borders for fussy cutting are provided. Our panel offerings contain two rows.

As usual with FF fabrics, the highest quality yard goods, printing and finishing were used, making for an excellent hand and great workability.  Make sure you look through the enlarged pictures for the individual fabrics, and the quilts on our website to see the true beauty of these fabrics.

We’re offering these as individual yardage and, as usual, in our popular special collections consisting of a panel and a half-yard of each coordinate.  Sample packs are also available.  Click Here to Shop for Deco Dance Fabrics, Collections, and Kits.

Deco Dance Kits

To go along with these fantastic fabrics, Sally Ablett has designed a quilt in

Deco Dance Quilt - Blue

wall hanging or small throw size that really shows off and accentuates the design elements of the fabrics.  These quilts are 49 inches square, and each uses all 5 of the “plate” designs in a unique layout. The angled layout ties together with the tonal stripe borders to make a design that has a lot of visual interest.  Several Fabric Freedom New Reflections blenders are used in each quilt as well. Reflections is a blender that has been printed using a dozen separate screens, so there is a lot of variation in the tones in these prints, lending further visual interest. Rather than a stark black for separation of the blocks, the mottled black reflections softens the look. The black Reflections is also used for the quilt bindings.

Deco Dance Quilt - Red

We’re offering this quilt kit in both the colorways, and as usual, our kit contains all the fabrics necessary for the top and bindings, plus Sally’s pattern and our helpful fabric cross-reference.  Click Here to Shop for Deco Dance fabrics, collections, and kits.

These quilts and fabrics are fresh and unique, and will bring a great spring feeling to your home.  Get some!

More Daiwabos Coming!

Our Customers Love Daiwabos!!!    And We Love them Too!!!  Just ask Marilyn!  We’re featuring a couple of her quilts in this post, more about them later.

Marilyns Daiwabo Quilt

Marilyn's Daiwabo Quilt

So, since we already have a large selection of Daiwabos, we decided to become the “Go-To” place for Serenity Daiwabo Taupes on the Interweb.   We currently have 68 or 69 print/color combinations in stock, and we’ve just ordered 45 more.  This will give our Daiwabo fans over 110 different fabrics to choose from, including pretty much every Daiwabo basic print and color, all the ombres. We’re also expecting our new 2010 fat quarter collections real soon, as well.

This will give you the ability to create to your hearts content, while not being limited by color or print, and not having to shop around to multiple stores to get the prints and colors you want.  We’ll have it all right here for you!

Well, I can feel that some of you are saying: “What the heck is a Daiwabo?”  The answer is, only the finest Japanese silk screens, in fantastic colors, some more muted and some brighter, on the highest quality quilter’s cotton.  These are all made by Daiwabo in Japan under contract to EESCO, owners of Maywood fabrics and Cara Collection, and the line name on these is Cara Collection Serenity.

These prints are the true Japanese aesthetic, extremely elegant prints and blenders, and each one has multiple shades so that you can literally mix and match at will across the entire line, old or new prints notwithstanding.  We really love them! Can you tell?  :-)

As an example of what you can do with them,  our friend Marilyn H. from

Marilyns Hubbys Quilt

Marilyn's Hubby's Daiwabo Quilt

Oklahoma, USA sent us some pictures of her latest Daiwabo creations.  The first is a quilt she made for herself, and the second, a more masculine quilt she made for her hubby.  Each of these quilts were made with just 3 or 4 Daiwabo prints.  In the first quilt, she used a leaf print in three different colors.  And in the second, she used  a beautiful fan-feather print in several colors.  These two quilts were both backed with one of the prints from the tops.

And we think they’re both fabulous!  Nice Work, Marilyn!

Another Cute Kit and Patterns!

We’ve now got kits available on our webstore using Shelly Figueroa’s cute “Holy Jumpsuit, Batgirl!” pattern.  We’ve teamed this really cute pattern up with four

Holy Jumpsuit, Batgirl! Jumpsuit Kit

Holy Jumpsuit, Batgirl! Jumpsuit Kit

different choices of Maywood’s Dab of Jazz fabrics, two in the violet/orange colorway and two in the blue/green colorway.

This is a really nice little girls jumpsuit and these are outstanding, highest-quality fabrics that will stand up to the abuse that kids tend to give their clothing.

The pattern makes any of three sizes, so our kit comes in your choice of sizes as well, 18 mo – 2 yrs, 3-4 yrs and 5-6 yrs, with appropriate amounts of the fabrics included.  All you need to add to finish this kit is some thread and a hunk of elastic.

Shelly rates the difficulty on this pattern as 3 out of 4 thimbles, so we guess it’s for intermediate sewers and above.

See this kit on our webstore by clicking here.

We’re also carrying this pattern as well as Shelly’s Mary Go Round dress pattern in our pattern section, in case you want to make these projects with other fabrics.

Beach Bum Hoodie and Beach Shorts Pattern

Beach Bum Hoodie and Beach Shorts Pattern

When we talked to Shelly in Portland, she showed us a brand new pattern she was just finishing, for a little boy’s Beach Shorts and Hoodie combo.  These are really cute designs, and although we don’t have the right kind of fabrics to do kits in these, we’ve also gotten the patterns for our pattern section.  The pattern comes in two different sizes, for 18 mo. – 6/7 or 8-14, so make sure you select the correct size when you order.

Click Here to see this pattern on our web store.
